A graduate of the Istituto Tecnico A. Rizza in Siracusa , Italy, Pirrotta emigrated to the U.S. in 1970 and established residence in Hartford, Connecticut. Hew obtained a B.S. in Business Administration and MBA in International Business from Central Connecticut State University.
He worked in International Banking for 33 years. In 2000 he received the Ex-Im Bank Small Business Bank of the year while at Webster Bank and Metro Hartford International Business Leader of the year in 2001 . In 1990 Pirrotta received the Alumnus of the Year award from CCSU Business school.
In 2009 he authored his first book, From Sicily to Connecticut, ( which was translated into Italian in 2014) and in 2015 he authored Hartford Mayor Ann Uccello: A Connecticut Trailblazer. in 2020 he released “Courage and Sacrifice: the Italian Immigrants of Hartford 1860-1960” and in 2021 he released “The Exceptional Miss Uccello: the Legacy of Hartford’s First Female Mayor”.
In 2012 he founded Casa Emigranti Italiani, a virtual museum designed to document the history of Italian immigrants into the Hartford area and their many contributions to this state.
Pirrotta and his wife Jo-Ann have one son and two grandchildren. They reside in South Glastonbury, CT.
