Boyle, Doe

As an author, editor, and master teaching artist, Doe enjoys opportunities to engage with emerging and developing writers in the classroom and in workshops. Her programs and residencies are adaptable to learners aged 4 to 104-plus. They empower elementary, middle school, high school, and adult students to have faith in the truth of their own voices and experiences, and they encourage the lifelong habit of interpreting and recording that truth in creative writing. Doe offers interdisciplinary programs and residencies in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction in science and social studies, and personal narrative (essays, memoir, and journalling).

In schools, all Doe’s programs and workshops are aligned with K-8 standards-based learning goals, including Common Core standards and Next Generation Science standards. Visual and dramatic arts components can add kinesthetic appeal to all programs. Among the custom-tailored options are bookmaking workshops, family folklore workshops, literature-based story-building workshops, and workshops designed to encourage and assist reluctant and beginning writers. Doe is also certified by the CT Center for Nonviolence as a Level One facilitator/teacher of the six principles of Kingian Nonviolence.

Doe’s newest books for young readers are science-based poetic picture books for readers aged 4-8. New in September 2020 are Heartbeat and Blink!both in Albert Whitman & Company’s science series, Imagine This! New in March 2021 is Hear the Wind Blow.
