History:

The Stonington Free Library, located in the center of Wadawanuck Square in the Borough of Stonington, is an association, not-for-profit library serving all residents of the town of Stonington, including Pawcatuck, Mystic, Old Mystic and the Borough of Stonington.  The original library building on Wadawanuck Square opened in 1900 through the generous support of Samuel Denison Babcock, Erskine M. Phelps and the townspeople.  It replaced the original library housed since 1887 in the Howe home on Main Street.  In 1956, the generosity of Dr. Frederic C. Pafford provided an addition on the north side.  The 1990 wing was added through a generous gift from the Wimpfheimer Family and donations from the community.  The generosity of library supporters allowed for repairs and restoration of the older sections in 2005-2006.

Your Stonington Free Library card gives you access to any Connecticut public library. A book drop, located at the east corner of the library, is available for returning materials any time.  You may renew items online at www.stoningtonfreelibrary.org.
