Evangeline Ballou, born in Mankato, Minnesota, is the great-granddaughter of Samuel Eldredge, born in Willington, Connecticut in 1775. The true story offered an opportunity for resolution of the family’s turmoil resulting from the divorce of Eva’s parents in 1869. It most assuredly was an awkward period of days for the daughter determined to better understand her family’s weaknesses in order to find her own strengths.
A retired accountant, author Alice Allan combines her analytical training with her B.A. in humanities (Colorado State University) by writing stories based on her family’s rich American history dating back to earliest New England. She now resides in Connecticut, where she continues to research and write. She, too, is a descendant of Samuel Eldredge.
