When Emily Dickinson died in 1886, she was unknown outside of a small circle of family and friends. Two women changed that. Author Julie Dobrow chronicles the lives of two of Dickinson’s earliest champions and editors in her new book, After Emily: Two Remarkable Women and the Legacy of—America’s Greatest Poet (W.W. Norton/2018).
At this author event on Tuesday,Dec. 11, Dobrow will read from and discuss her book on Mabel Loomis Todd and her daughter Millicent, who worked tirelessly to edit, publicize and eventually build Emily Dickinson’s literary legacy.
“The biographical material related to Emily Dickinson’s legacy is the work’s driving force, but Dobrow’s skillful account of Mabel’s and Millicent’s lives makes this page-turner a must-read for the poet’s most ardent fans,” reads a review of the book in Library Journal.
Barnes & Noble will provide books for purchase, and for autographing by the author.
