SUMMARY:The Dysregulated Kid: Author Talk with Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge\, to discuss the release of her new book\, The Dysregulated Kid. This program is part of the “Take Back Your Time” series. \nCalm the brain first―and everything else follows. \n“Why does my child lose it over the smallest things?”\n“Why don’t rewards or consequences work?”\n“Why do I feel like I’m failing when I’m trying so hard?” \nIf these questions sound familiar\, you’re not alone―and you’re not failing. You’re just missing the one step no one ever taught you: how to calm the nervous system first. \nWith more than thirty years of experience as a therapist and school psychologist\, and as a mom who lived this struggle herself\, Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge discovered that kids don’t need fixing―they need nervous system regulation. The solution isn’t stricter discipline\, more rewards\, or better routines. It’s a proven\, science-backed method called Regulation First Parenting™\, and it changes everything. \nIn The Dysregulated Kid\, you’ll learn how to: \n– Break free from the exhausting cycle of yelling\, bribing\, and punishing.\n– Move from co-dysregulation to co-regulation\, where calm is contagious.\n– Shift from constant reactivity to confident\, steady parenting.\n– Use small\, doable strategies that rewire both your child’s brain and your own.\n– Help your child be more focused\, independent\, and resilient so they can do better in school and in life. \nThis book isn’t another parenting trend―it’s the playbook for finally helping your child (and yourself) find calm in a chaotic world. With real-life tools\, neuroscience explained in plain language\, and hope on every page\, Dr. Roseann shows you how to stop fighting with your child and start connecting. \nMeltdowns and battles to get your child to listen don’t have to define your days. Confidence\, connection\, and calmer moments are possible―and it all begins when you learn to calm the brain first. \nThe Dysregulated Kid is the guide every parent wishes they had sooner. \nDr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge is a licensed therapist\, certified school psychologist\, bestselling author\, award-winning podcast host\, and mom—with over 30 years of experience helping dysregulated kids and their families.  She is the host of the Dysregulated Kids podcast\, with over 2 million downloads\, where parents and professionals turn for clear\, nervous-system–based answers to today’s biggest emotional and behavioral challenges.  Through decades of clinical work—and lived experience—Dr. Roseann discovered a truth most parenting advice misses: when we calm the nervous system first\, everything changes—behavior\, learning\, and emotional health.  The Dysregulated Kid brings this science-backed approach to parents in a way that is compassionate\, practical\, and doable\, even in the middle of real-life stress.  Featured on NBC\, CBS\, and FOX—and named “the thought leader in children’s mental health” by Forbes—Dr. Roseann bridges brain science with real-world strategies parents can use every day.  Learn more here

SUMMARY:Things We Found in the Ground: Virtual Author Event with Eleanor Bruce and Lucilla Gray
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual conversation with Eleanor and Lucilla\, to celebrate the U.S. release of Things We Found in the Ground. October is Archaeology Month in Connecticut! \nIn this guide-that’s-not-a-guide\, metal detectorist cousins Ellie and Lucie explore their local landscape\, getting to grips with the hobby\, history and themselves along the way. \nBeginning with their first meeting in over 20 years at their grandfather’s home in Lincolnshire\, the two cousins – Eleanor and Lucilla – quickly learn that each has a fascination with unearthing historic artefacts\, which will set them off on their metal detecting journey … \nOver many weeks and months spent digging countless holes\, the pair make startling discoveries: about the objects they find and what they tell us about our ancestors\, about themselves and who they are as people\, and about the power of community\, as they forge connections with local villagers\, detectorists and history lovers along the way. \nThis charming tale of (self-)discovery will capture the hearts and minds of those seeking escapism through the buried history that we walk over every day. \nAbout the authors: We are Ellie and Lucie\, cousins\, detectorists and authors. With over 5 years of experience out in the field (literally)\, we like to think we know a thing or two about the art of digging holes. Metal detecting for us was once a lockdown hobby… now it’s taken over both of our lives. Roman Found began as a creative outlet\, a way to share our adventures with fellow diggers\, hobbyists\, collectors and enthusiasts through the power of the internet—we never could’ve dreamed that we would connect with so many people. \nOur biggest inspiration will always be our finds and the stories they hold. Half of what we do is in the research\, searching beyond the dirt\, between the pages of a reference book for that tangible link back through decades\, centuries or even a millennia; a picture slowly building around that object we’ve pulled from the earth\, be it a button\, buckle or Roman coin.  Recently\, there has been a massive resurgence of public interest in history and in the stories still lost within our landscape. Metal detecting\, as a result\, has become\, dare we say it\, trendy… As active self recorders with the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme and PLA Permit Holders\, we aim to highlight the responsible side of metal detecting through our adventures\, adding to the public record responsibly and increasing the archaeological understanding of our region. Learn more here \nPlease register; Zoom links will go out the day before the event. \nSponsored by the Avon Library\, Avon Historical Society\, and Avon Senior Center.
