SUMMARY:THE DEMOCRATIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the Osborne Homestead Museum on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026\, at 2pm for a specialized tour to learn about the importance of literacy through the life of Wesleyan scholar\, Civil War major\, industrial business leader\, and father/co-founder of Derby Neck Library\, Wilbur Fisk Osborne. \nWilbur Osborne spoke to his community through his speeches but also indirectly to the viewer through photos. This event is meant to serve as an encouragement to dedicate more time in a good book. We will be providing free books from Derby Neck Library that you may take home. All age groups are welcome. \nThe Osborne Homestead Museum\, a facility of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s State Parks & Public Outreach Division\, is open for free docent-led and self-guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off Rte. 34 in Derby\, CT. The Kellogg Environmental Center\, a facility of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s State Parks & Public Outreach Division\, is open 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM\, Tuesday through Saturday.
