The Friends of the Simsbury Public Library will co-host with the Simsbury Public Library a virtual author program on Thursday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. with critically-acclaimed author, Nadia Hashimi who will discuss her new book Sparks Like Stars, a brilliant and compelling novel about an Afghan American woman who returns to Kabul to learn the truth about her family and the tragedy that destroyed their lives.

Nadia Hashimi is a pediatrician turned novelist who draws on her Afghan culture to craft internationally bestselling books including The Pearl That Broke Its Shell, The House Without Windows, and When the Moon Is Low. Her novels span generations and continents, taking on complex themes like forced migration, conflict, poverty, misogyny, colonialism, and addiction. With translations in seventeen languages, she’s connected with readers around the world. “Hashimi’s novel(s) are populated by vibrant, complex characters and offer a piercing look at the lives of women in Afghanistan.”– Booklist review
