Write To The Point Showcases
August 2, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Mark Twain House
“Write to the Point” apprentices will be presenting their final showcase on Friday, August 2, at the Mark Twain House & Museum from noon to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The Mark Twain House & Museum is proud to be part of the Greater Hartford Arts Council‘s Neighborhood Studios program, which develops emerging artists and teaches teens the value of creativity and fundamental career skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce. For six weeks every summer, this program offers paid apprenticeships to students ages 14 to 18 at six Hartford locations. The studio at the Mark Twain House focuses on creative writing with its “Write to the Point” program.
Beginning Tuesday, June 25, fifteen apprentices began receiving instruction in creative writing, and exploring the role of place in a writer’s work through poetry, creative non-fiction, and museum exhibition. Under the tutelage of Master Teaching Artist Vicky Nordlund and her assistant Julia Bonadies, they will spend six weeks onsite fine-tuning their creative voices, and writing in the Mark Twain House itself. At the end of their apprenticeship, they will present two final projects, including a performance of original poetry and prose, and a group museum exhibit.
You can enjoy performances from all of the studios during Studio Snapshots on Monday, July 30 at Hartford’s Infinity Music Hall, 32 Front Street, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Neighborhood Studios is a program of the Greater Hartford Arts Council as part of its mission to inspire all people to participate and invest in the arts.
