Capitol America – A Book Talk and Signing
December 17, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
CT United States
The Stanley-Whitman House is delighted to host an inspiring evening with acclaimed photographers Robert Lisak and David Ottenstein for a book talk and signing of their exceptional work, “Capitol America: A Photographic Portrait of the Fifty State Capitols.” This event, free of charge, continues the narrative from their highly praised CAPITOL AMERICA exhibit, which graced our venue from June 1 to August 28, 2021. The exhibit, featuring twenty-four magnificent photographs of state capitol buildings, not only captivated our audience but also garnered acclaim, including a review by Brian T. Allen, National Review’s art critic.
In this special event, Lisak and Ottenstein will offer insights and stories from their journey across the United States, capturing the architectural magnificence of all 50 state capitol buildings. Their book showcases a variety of architectural styles and intricate details, weaving a rich, visual narrative that highlights the historical and artistic significance of these civic temples. Enhanced by contributions from George Miles and Robert Morton, the book presents the capitol buildings in the order of their states’ admissions to the Union, adding a chronological depth to the exploration.
To ensure a comfortable and engaging experience, we kindly request attendees to register in advance. While there is no admission fee, we warmly welcome any donations to support the Stanley-Whitman House in hosting more enriching events and maintaining our commitment to arts and culture. Your generous contributions and presence are greatly valued.
This evening is not just an opportunity to delve into America’s architectural heritage but also a chance to support the artists directly. Copies of “Capitol America” will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting Lisak and Ottenstein. Acquiring a copy allows you to own a piece of this extraordinary project and support the ongoing endeavors of these talented photographers.
Join us at the Stanley-Whitman House for an evening of captivating stories, artistic insights, and a unique opportunity to get your book signed by the photographers themselves. This event promises to be an enlightening experience for photography enthusiasts, history lovers, and admirers of architectural splendor, celebrating the diversity and history of American architecture. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance for your kind support and interest.
