In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Weston History & Culture Center (Weston Historical Society) is hosting an author talk and book signing with Lisa Franco, author of My Dearest Darling: Letters of Love in Wartime on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 2pm in the Center’s exhibit hall at 104 Weston Road in Weston, CT. Tickets are $5.00 per person, free to WHCC members. Purchase in advance at www.WestonCTHistory.org or at the door.

U.S. naval officer Donald Storey was not just fighting for his country in World War II—he was fighting to come home to his love, Margery. When journalist Lisa Franco stumbled upon the couple’s lost love letters in a Dennisport antique shop, she had no idea of the story she was about to uncover. In My Dearest Darling: Letters of Love in Wartime, Donald’s and Margery’s intimate and heartwarming correspondence chronicles their romance, personal sacrifices, hopes, and dreams, and gives a firsthand account of historical events as they unfolded overseas and at home. Come meet the author, Lisa Franco, and hear about her eleven-year journey to bring the true love story of this Fairfield couple back to life. Autographed books will be available to purchase.

After the talk, guests can tour the Center’s Coley House, which was recently restored, the first floor brought back to the 1940s when the last three generations of the Coley family occupied the home and farmstead. Guests can also view four new exhibitions, “Life in the 40s”, “Let’s Play”, Twelve Stories of Weston History”, and “The Curious Case of Eleven O’Clock Road – How Weston Got Its Place Names”.
