Ieronimo, Christine

I am the author of the picture book A Thirst For Home, A Story of Water Across the World Illustrated by Eric Velasquez, published by Bloomsbury Kids in 2014, and re-released in soft cover by Scholastic Education in 2016. It was recognized as a 2015 Notable Social Studies Book by The Children’s Book Council. It is listed by Booklist as a present day immigration story. It is also listed on the Premier’s Summer reading list 2017, 2018 in Australia. A Thirst For Home aligns with common core standards.

I am native of Connecticut where I presently live. We recently returned to Ethiopia with our adopted daughter to reunite with her birth mother and sister who are the inspirations for my book. I am very passionate about the importance of educating girls in places like rural Ethiopia. I wrote this story to give a voice to the girls and women spending their days walking for water. They are the true heroes of the world. Water is life. I believe that understanding and empathy are powerful tools in the hands of children.
